Daniel Buren is a renowned french artist, painter, sculptor that accomplished many great pieces of artwork across the world. In 2022, he decided to recover the famous train station of Liège-Guillemins with colored vinyls. A project initiated by Uhoda Group, our parent company.
The Color Experience
When the Liège-Guillemins station became the setting for a monumental and temporary piece of work by Daniel Buren, we created the Color Experience, inaugurating this masterpiece with more than 1000 people present in the busiest public place of the city.
A public inauguration, followed by a private event, with the opportunity to get a guided visit from the artist himself and with audio-guides. Anyone could get the full guided tour by scanning QR codes displayed throughout the station.
"Comme tombées du ciel, les couleurs in situ et en mouvement"
Conceived in dialogue with Santiago Calatrava's architecture, the 10,000 m2 work unfolds through the installation of coloured vinyls on all the station's glass roofs, following a rhythm set by the artist. This monumental artistic project is constantly changing according to the daylight, the hours and the seasons. In this way, the artist transforms the station, inviting the public to take a fresh look at the architecture and the poetic possibilities of everyday life.
Partnerships with local roots
For this 18-month project, Uhoda SA has brought together public and private operators who are both cultural patrons and committed to the city of Liège.
The main partners, Eiffage, La Loterie Nationale, Ardent Group and Vranken-Pommery, along with Uhoda Group, had the objective to give positive visibility to the city of Liège and, through a cultural project shared by as many people as possible, to promote better living and dialogue between people and communities.
For over 20 years, Uhoda Group has been committed to support not only contemporary art, but also the local artistic and cultural scene.
The artpiece of Daniel Buren will be visible from 15 October 2022 until June 2024.
